bansheesandrider Posted April 6, 2010 Report Posted April 6, 2010 Is it possibly a broken spring from the clutch? It is probably what scarred up your cover and definetly what went through your gears. Your are going to have to buy a clutch basket as that is the only way to get the gears that go on it unless you buy straight cut gears. You will also need a crank gear and any other parts that were damaged. As for the impeller, what you are describing is typical of billet impellers- their shafts are actually softer than the factory shaft. Mull Engineering actually makes an impeller that goes on the hardened factory shaft, but they are currently out of stock. Also, inspect your kick idler gear for a sloppy bushing, if the bushing is sloppy it will flip the snap ring off the shaft and run it through the gears like the other piece did. benb5241 Posted April 6, 2010 Author Report Posted April 6, 2010 O jeez I should have said that, the clutch springs were all in perfect shape. Whatever it is, it definitely is what ran through the gears. Actually, all I need is someone's stock basket that is shot but the gear is good on, then I could drill the rivets out and put the gear on the basket, since it is a Hinson basket and the gear is removable on those, it is just bolted on. Thanks for the tip on the water impeller, is it safe to use the billet one or should I just be buying a new one? The only parts that were damaged were the ones in my pictures, surprisingly. Thanks for the info on the kick start assembly too. Quote
benb5241 Posted May 31, 2010 Author Report Posted May 31, 2010 (edited) Ok guys, got it all put together. Really like it, ran awesome during break in. I had it jetted a little rich during break in just to make sure everything was lubed alright. Only one size though. Anyways it ran great during that time, then when I leaned my jetting by one, because the plugs read rich, it wants to fall on its face when it gets hot. I cleaned the carb, checked the reeds, did a compression check and put new plugs in. If anyone has any ideas I'd appreciate it, and I am not sure if the jetting change is just coincidence or not. Thanks for any help. Edited May 31, 2010 by benb5241 Quote
benb5241 Posted May 31, 2010 Author Report Posted May 31, 2010 Update, still didn't get it working but I played with the jets quite a bit and was swapping plugs the entire time. Quote
