scuba Posted February 11, 2010 Report Posted February 11, 2010 bike has no spark at all is it possible the cdi box is bad atleast thats wat yamaha said even tho bike was only missing on one cylinder any help Quote
broncbob Posted February 11, 2010 Report Posted February 11, 2010 Do you have spark one one side, and not on the other, or are both holes dead? Are you using new plugs to check if you have spark? Quote
KickStartMyHeart Posted February 11, 2010 Report Posted February 11, 2010 maybe pull the stator cover and see if the bolts didn't come out of the pickup on the flywheel. I had the same problem last week and started by checking the ignition and CDI and all that was fine. So we pulled the stator cover and a tiny little bolt fell out when we pulled it off and it was the bolt to hold the pickup on. Quote
scuba Posted February 11, 2010 Author Report Posted February 11, 2010 no spark at all on either side.put new plugs in and still no spark Quote
Bill Posted February 11, 2010 Report Posted February 11, 2010 Id check the pickup gap like stated above, maybe a bad ground? Quote
broncbob Posted February 11, 2010 Report Posted February 11, 2010 I'd start with downloading a manuel from the link in the post at the top of the section. Then open up the stator side and check the gap at the pickup coil. If the gap is set at a plug box or business card and is tight, start to go through the tests for the stator, then the coil and CDI, checking the plugs and wires as you go. If all of that turns out good, check the key switch and bar switch. All most forgot, do you still have the Tors on your carbs? If you do, pull the plug on the brain by the left pipe, just over the head. Do this first if it's still there and hooked up. Quote
bansheesandrider Posted February 11, 2010 Report Posted February 11, 2010 There are multiple threads about this. Pull the stator cover and give everything in there an inspection: pickup coil gap, anything loose or damaged, spare parts flying around, flywheel loose or damaged, and maybe even pull the flywheel and inspect the key and look at the stator for damage. If everytrhing in the stator looks good, then you need to unplug the stator from the wire harness and ohm out the wires per the service manual. If the stator ohms OK, then you need to ohm the coil per the manual, EXCEPT when checking the secondary resistance you need to connect the meter to BOTH plug wires instead of 1 plug wire and the ground like the book says. Make sure the frame has no paint on it where the coil mounts as this is a ground. If all of this checks out OK then you need to find another CDI box to try as there is no way to actually test the CDI box except substitute another one. If you have to buy a CDI box I would get either an OEM Yamaha unit or a DYNA unit, everything else is junk. Quote
KickStartMyHeart Posted February 11, 2010 Report Posted February 11, 2010 I bet a $100 its the pickup and or coil. Any takers???????? Quote
