camorider Posted January 1, 2010 Report Posted January 1, 2010 My bike backfires on one side at an idle and at acceleration. I replaced the spark plugs and tuned the carbs. will the main jet size affect it? Also, I the weather is cold, below 50 degrees. Quote
bebetekbanshee358 Posted January 1, 2010 Report Posted January 1, 2010 did u clean ur carbs before u tuned them???the main jest size will not affect it at idle.... do u have that tors crap still? if so. disconect it.. check your carb sync...also what are u idle mix screws set at on both carbs.. should be even across Quote
98_shee Posted January 1, 2010 Report Posted January 1, 2010 Backfiring is normally a sign of a lean condition. Check for air leaks the intake boots are bad about cracking around where the carbs go in and where the crossover tube goes. Do a leak down test and a proper plug chop if needed. Quote
camorider Posted January 1, 2010 Author Report Posted January 1, 2010 I moved the needle position from the 2nd lean position to the 3rd mid-range position. The backfiring diminished incredibly, but when I hit the throttle it bogs at first then revs up normally. Also, when I put it in gear it stalls out. Could there be an air leak because when I adjust the air screw on that one carb nothing changes. Plus the idle increases every couple minutes and then slows down again to it's normal state. Any help will be appreciated! Quote
