87sheerips Posted September 28, 2009 Report Posted September 28, 2009 Ok fellas, I am looking to get some feedback here. A couple years ago I fabricated my own engine stand from some garage scrap. I decided this past weekend I would reverse engineer it, improve it, make it lighter and better to share with the banshee community. This has helped me out HUGE in the past, and its great for torquing bolts, etc. Just use a c-clamp to mount on your work bench and it provides a nice, stable workstation. This is something that I want to sell for as little cost as possible. My question is who would use one, and how much would you pay for it. If I can get an Idea of what you want to pay, I can make adjustments on my end to try and make that happen. Right now it will be made from 14ga steel, and powdercoated Black. Please let me know what you think, or if I should just keep my own and call it good. I'm not sure how many DIY engine builders there are on here. Thanks guys! -JD Quote
dajogejr Posted September 28, 2009 Report Posted September 28, 2009 JD...this is what you'd have to compete with. I had one of these (my buddy bought one, gave it to me when he sold his banshee) I never used it. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/YAMAHA-BANSHEE-engine-stand-motor-RZ-350-drag-RZ350-new_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem2a014a4bb3QQitemZ180410272691QQptZMotorsQ5fATVQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories Quote

I might have to venture towards a more simplified design such as that. That's a good price for a stand too, and a price range I was shooting for with this. Just want peoples input on this to see if its worth even making one of them, lol. Quote
Smokestack Posted September 28, 2009 Report Posted September 28, 2009 For 30 bucks i would buy one Quote
KJWaters217 Posted September 28, 2009 Report Posted September 28, 2009 i have one of those stands off of ebay and its pretty nice...Definitely make yours so that it swivels. its got holes in the base so that you can bolt it to your bench to keep it from moving when wrenching too...only complaint ive got is that you really have to tighten the hell outta the bolt to keep it from swiveling. just some things to consider in your design. If i woulda known you were going to start making something similar i woulda held off and got one from you Quote
KlotzBanshee Posted September 28, 2009 Report Posted September 28, 2009 Its a good idea and would come in handy, but as often as I would need one I wouldn't pay more than 30 bucks for it. Quote
bbcmudtruck Posted September 29, 2009 Report Posted September 29, 2009 If you could make it so that the engine can rotate top to bottom and side to side while on the stand, that would be nice. Quote
racer Posted September 29, 2009 Report Posted September 29, 2009 (edited) I made some for Honda 50's once. It works great for a topend, but no bottom stuff because of the horizontally separating cases. However, with vertical separation cases, this should work out real nice. alf44 Posted September 29, 2009 Report Posted September 29, 2009 Good idea. definantly needs too swivel though. I would buy one for $30. Im looking for an atv jack right now that I can roll around shop with a frame and what not on it. Quote
racer Posted September 29, 2009 Report Posted September 29, 2009 Good idea. definantly needs too swivel though. Swivel and lock, for when you need to torque something. Quote
