I have all my mods listed in my signature. I run Pro Wedge 2's in the rear. I do a lot of drag racing, very little trail riding, and very little hill climbing, if i do. It's long open stretches. I plan to go 4mil long rod in the winter. Is my gearing off? Ive been designing the bike for dragging and top end i guess. Due to the pipes and drag porting and 33 pwks soon. I have 13 tooth front sprocket and stock rear sprocket. Am i losing out on power with my gearing?

On our 350 drag bike we run 14-42 gearing on it for 300' and it is pinned in 5th as it crosses the traps but it also has a 1-5 override in it.

So somewhere around there you will be good imo but with wedge's you could probally run like a 40 rear and still launch in 2nd gear.

So 14 42 will give me more top end? What is stock gearing? Because with 13 front and stock rear as i cross the finish line im just shifting into 4th.....

Going up in the front and down in the rear will give you more topend.

I think stock is 13-40 i beleive...but not 100% for sure on that.

So what i would do is make the gearing to where when you cross the finish line you want to be almost wound out in a certain gear.

So lets say you want to be wound out in 4th i would go up on the rear sprocket a couple teeth like if your @ a 40 got to a 42 or so that way your always in your power band or close the peck power as you cross the trapps.

there is really no way to give an answer for this question that will work for everybody. Depends on what you weigh, how you ride, too many factors.

On my 421 cub, I ran 15-41

On my 10mil cub, I ran 17- 38

on my current K&T 4mil dragport, I am running stock gearing at 14-41

I have found that the stock gearing works really well for me, still fast on the drags, and will work in the hillshoots too.

How far are you racing? Without an override, in 300 ft its hard to get through all the gears, regardless of gearing, imo. I barely got into 5th gear without an override, but wound it out in 5th with an override with the same gearing. I'd gear it to the about the highest that you can, and still leave in 2nd easily. Then work on keeping it in peak power all the way down the track. You'll probably end up with around stock (14/41), or maybe 15/42 or so.

Also, don't forget those pro wedges/4 snows grow a lot on the other end. Good luck.

MOre teeth in front = higher gearing (more top end)

LESS teeth in rear = higher gearing

+1 tooth in front is approximately equal to - 3 teeth in rear, or - 1 tooth in front is approximately equal to + 3 teeth in the rear.

ex: 14/42 is about the same as 15/45.
