I have a set of fmf powercore 2's, i took them apart just to inspect but the packing inside is pitch black and very brittle? Would there be any benefits for me to repack them? Or just let them go

Good question, but trust me, you'll know when its time to repack. You'll hear loud poping/crackling sounds from the silencers (maybe even from one cylinder only). I actually just purchased a brand new set of T5s, rode on them for a month, started hearing that poping noise only from the left side. So i pulled the packing out to find that the packing directly against the spark tube had hardened stiff from the oil in the gas  I mean it was rock solid, causing the free flow of the exhaust, no absorption, sucked pretty bad. So I grabbed me a bit of household insulation (the cheap route), spun it around the spark tube a few times, wrapped that puppy with some masking taped and STUFFED that mug in there. Started her up and sounds like new again!

Yea, eventually it'll happen again, but for 3 bucks cant complain! And as for performance, ive actually heard that running them without packing can slightly reduce performance. I just repacked mine cause i hate that loud poping sound like somethings breaking!
