may sound trivial and basic, but did you unplug the stator to do the plate? if so, did you plug it back in?

seen stranger things, like "wheres my glasses?"

"on top of your head"

no i didnt unplug the stator. is there anyway i could test voltage with a meter.. and if i did what wire should i do.. this is really starting to bug me.

Did it have spark before you put the new timing plate on?

If so it should have spark now, look the stator over for loose solder joints(loose wires).

Clymer manual stator specs,

Lighting coil resistance, yellow to black=0.26-0.38ohms

pickup coil resistance, white/red to white/green=94-140ohms

charging coil resistance, green to red=13.7-20.5ohms

Get your multi meter out and see what you got.

Good luck.

oh, beat me to it. you can also check the flywheel output by using a testlight in the stator ignition coil wires. should light evenly, really bright, as it's about 16-20 volts or more just from a kick. if there is a flywheel issue, and the stator is good, it will flicker, or be dim. you used a puller, right?

k so i checked the ohms. everything checked out besides the charging coil. i got zero resistance

well, there you go. check for wire breaks, and test where the wires connect strait to the stator.
