VGD Posted May 27, 2009 Report Posted May 27, 2009 ok well i am considering switching to a lectron for my dune bike its a 4 mill passion 12 port i have pwks on there right now, just wondering if the lectron and converting to alky for this bike is the right choice for me.??/ Quote
wesw Posted May 27, 2009 Report Posted May 27, 2009 ive ran both lectrons are nice will say but they are $$$$ if your happy with the pwk i would stick with them. the problem with lectrons is im always adjust the needle for cold to warm conditions to keep the idle right its a simple twist and 3 screws but still. they are sweet carbs once setup though. pwk or pj are just as much work to adjust so its a caught 22. VGD Posted May 27, 2009 Author Report Posted May 27, 2009 cool, thing is i heard to convert PWK's to alky is not easy/ $$$, not quite as much as lectrons would be.....but not that far off. Quote

wesw Posted May 27, 2009 Report Posted May 27, 2009 sounds like your wanting carbs to run both gas and alky then some lectrons would probably work well just remember all the jetting settings for each one. Quote
Snopczynski Posted May 27, 2009 Report Posted May 27, 2009 I would stay away from alcohol, but I would run the lectrons. I never heard they were drag carbs. Most people probably think that because guys who drag race usually have a ton of knowledge. It takes quite a bit of knowledge to tune a set of lectrons. I have never seen anyone have to constantly dick with them with temperature changes either. I ride with 3 guys who have them, and I ran them on one of my bikes about 6 years ago. Quote

Time and money spent preparing the bike vs the return and actual maintenance is not worth it to me. Are you pretty good at jetting bikes, and mechanically inclined? Cause you have to be to run alcohol. Quote
sheefreak Posted May 27, 2009 Report Posted May 27, 2009 I would not run alky if you are doing much if any duning. If you are building a drag bike, there is no other way...run the alcohol. Easier to tune and jet. Purging is the only real thing you have to do besides keep a little closer eye on your plugs. Alky is a little more sensitive to temp and humidity changes, but unlike gas, you can run a alky so rich the temp and humidity changes won't matter. The power difference is substantial. If you change nothing else but the things required to run alky optimally, it will put a smile on your face. And, even though you burn twice as much fuel it is still way cheaper. I paid 12.50 to fill up a f gallon jug of alky this last weekend! Quote

VGD Posted May 28, 2009 Author Report Posted May 28, 2009 any of you guys out there run alky in the dunes???? how long will a/does your tank last? Quote
rubberneck Posted May 28, 2009 Report Posted May 28, 2009 any of you guys out there run alky in the dunes???? how long will a/does your tank last? you will burn approximately double the amount of alky, so your duner trips will be very short as far as lectrons on a duner, my buddy runs them on a 10mil stock cylinder duner on 110 octane and they are great. he never touches them Quote

Quote
sheefreak Posted May 28, 2009 Report Posted May 28, 2009 It all depends on where you are located in the country(ie humidity) The best way to go is if you go for a single day ride, race, or trip then purge when done. If you go away for a weekend and ride every day, purge after the weekend. If you go this route you will always be safe. Purging is easy, takes 5 minutes. Quote
Snopczynski Posted May 28, 2009 Report Posted May 28, 2009 Well, just to clarify. Are you going to use Ethanol or methanol? Quote
