Hi I'm trying to adjust the shift system with the adjust screw and lock nut... I seen in clymer how to adjust this but I tryed 4-5 times and the distances seems to be identical and it won't shift right in all gear... any1 have a trick or sugestion to fix that?

How old is your shift shaft.?

The spring that the eccentric screw goes through that you adjust might be worn out.

Also when you adjust that eccentric screw, make sure your in gear and not in neutral.

sent shift shaft to fast for the mod and the srew is brand new the return spring is brand new too

 

Ok, then shes all good then.

Have you put it all back together and tried to shift through all the gears when your banshees moving? or just have the cover off and trying to shift threw the gears by hand?

 

If your trying to shift while the covers off and your looking at the shift shaft and everything it right, it WILL NOT go into all gears unless you are spinning the shaft by hand (the one the basket sits on) or if you are moving the shee and everything is together and the wheels are turning.

 

SO how are you trying this?

hmmm I did like clymer says... the crank isnt in yet so I put the upper crank case on and 4 bolt to hold it and turn the shaft by hand and try to shit threw all gears... u think I sould all finish the engine job and put it back in the frame and try to adjust it in frame?

I would say at least put the motor together and then try it bud!

yea np I was just scared that I put the engine together and have to disasamble it cuz there's a problem with trans lol

I tore my motor appart a few years ago and while it was out of the frame I tried to shift through the gears. It wouldnt always shift either. I think this is partialy due to the engine not turning. I couldnt find anything wrong so I just said fuck it and put it in the bike. Turned out nothing was wrong it shifted great once I got it running.

Ok I pulled to clutch cover and clutch off and noticed that the end of my shift shaft ( the part that pivots on a spring) was kinda cockeyed or stuck to one side. So I went to the stator side to try and removed my shifter lever. I went back to the other side and noticed it looked normal again. I attached the shifter lever and manually moved the bike up and down through the gears and it went fine. I dont know what the hell happened. How could this get like this also what can I do so this doesnt happen again? Should I get a whole new setup? Has anyone experienced this?

Hows that tiny lil spring on the end. Is it bent any? Is the shaft its self bent any? If the shaft is bent even slightly, it will not shift properly and be all out wack. Same goes for the lil spring also.

 

If that lil spring is bent or broken any way, you have to buy a whole new shift shaft as you cant buy that lil spring separately.

 

Sounds like you got it worked out though, so go ride it and let me know if its better.

 

If its not, just grab a brand new shift shaft form Jeff at F.A.S.T as there not that expensive to get.

Sequential transmissions require rotations as well as a small load to get them to shift properly. They do not have synchros like a conventional manual trans so they must be spinning to shift. Bench shifting will never tell the true story and will bind between gears, etc, but perform fine when run in the bike.

 

When bench testing a trans you need to be spinning the input shaft when you shift and if it binds in a gear, you apply opposite torsion force to the input and output shafts to free it. As long as it shifts into all gears and neutral, that is all you can really tell on the bench.
