Boominrick Posted March 28, 2009 Report Posted March 28, 2009 last summer i noticed coolant evaporating in the head, and saw 2 hairline cracks on both sides. so today i started to get her ready for the summer and decided to try to fix it.i pulled the head off and one side the crack is pretty ugly. the other side i can weld at work but the other i thank is not repairable. BTW. the top half of this motor is from a RZ350 and the head says YPVS on them (yamaha power valve system) so does anyone know where i can get a head for this? would a stock banshee head work or do i need the rz350 one? thanks in advance Quote
shee4speed Posted March 28, 2009 Report Posted March 28, 2009 wow that blows. That head is different than a stoch Banshee head. I dont know if it will work or not. Quote
Keyser Soze Posted March 28, 2009 Report Posted March 28, 2009 Do you have all of the electronics to make it work? Id go back to stock top end. Quote
Boominrick Posted March 28, 2009 Author Report Posted March 28, 2009 The power valve is not hooked up. I do not have the eletronics for it but I'm looking for the stuff on eBay. I bought the bike with this stuff already done. Maybe I will have to repair it. Also if anyone has information on where I can find the power valve stuff that would be awsome Quote
sheerider1026 Posted March 28, 2009 Report Posted March 28, 2009 what intake and carb is on that bike?? only 2 things that i know cause cracks, hot and cold.. did the engine overheat?? or maybe the coolant froze during the winter due to lack of antifreeze?? Quote
Boominrick Posted March 29, 2009 Author Report Posted March 29, 2009 The intake setup on the bike is Vforce reeds, 2-1 manny and a pkw? Carb. I think that rings a bell. Not sure if the bike was overheated or froze. Any way to tell? Quote
banshee_terror_ Posted March 29, 2009 Report Posted March 29, 2009 put up pics of the crack i wana see what it looks like Quote
Boominrick Posted March 29, 2009 Author Report Posted March 29, 2009 (edited) here are the pics this doesnt look good! detonation? other side looks ok tho i pretty sure the carb is a DG keihin pwk Edited March 29, 2009 by Boominrick Quote
BigRed350x Posted March 29, 2009 Report Posted March 29, 2009 Just looking at the bolt pattern on the head, it looks very similar to a banshee head. Anyone have a stock head laying around they can send this guy? Talk to dave at noss machine, he might be able to help you out with an aftermarket head. Quote
Boominrick Posted March 29, 2009 Author Report Posted March 29, 2009 they do look the same. hmmm well here is the most recent pic of my baby before i took her apart today Quote
AKheathen Posted March 29, 2009 Report Posted March 29, 2009 measure the holes on 1 cylinder. front to 1 rear is 95mm center to center. front to each middle is 57mm c-c. middle to middle 78mm c-c. i have one sill installed, but i'm gonna put my powerhead on soon. looks like yours is freeze damage, from the look of he coolant passages, and where it cracked. sheerider1026 Posted March 29, 2009 Report Posted March 29, 2009 yep, looks like she froze and cracked.. i would inspect the rest of the coolant system for cracks (cylinders, radiator).. the rz head is different from the banshee head.. if you do not have the electronics for the powervalve system, i would get some banshee cylinders and get rid of all your problems.. a good set of ported banshee cyinders will do great.. good luck. sheerider1026 Posted March 29, 2009 Report Posted March 29, 2009 nope. it has a different sealing surface shape.. i am almost positive that a stock banshee head will not work.. i have done my share of research on converting over to a rz setup.. needless to say, i still have the stock cylinders.
