baudy Posted February 27, 2009 Report Posted February 27, 2009 I have a set of Pro-Circuit Platinums on my '02 'Shee. The problem I have is that they have some surface rust on them from over the years. What is the best thing to use to clean and shine them up? Or would it be worth it to just scuff and paint them with some High-Temp paint? Quote
ellison445 Posted February 27, 2009 Report Posted February 27, 2009 I use steel wool or oven cleaner on my CPI's Quote

Loc Posted March 3, 2009 Report Posted March 3, 2009 I have been using Cook Top cleaning creme for glass stove tops and 0000 steel wool. It works great. Quote
donkeypuncher Posted March 3, 2009 Report Posted March 3, 2009 if its just surface rust and not pitting then i would go with some stuff called Blue Job. shit works wonders. with a little elbow grease it will take the surface rust, bluing and yellowing on pipes off and shine them up reall nice too. looks like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BLUE-JOB-CH...VehicleQ5fParts comes in a small amount but it works awesome. donkeypuncher Posted March 4, 2009 Report Posted March 4, 2009 how much will this amount do? you should be able to take the surface rust off, the blueing and also polish them up one time completely. the next time you want or need to take surface rust or blueing off then you'll have to buy another thing of it. donkeypuncher Posted March 15, 2009 Report Posted March 15, 2009 what would you use if the pipes are pitted with rust? i would probly use a fine steel wool or sandpaper. Quote
R. Rollins Posted March 19, 2009 Report Posted March 19, 2009 (edited) If they are chrome and have some pits on them I would never use steel wood as it scratches the surface a bit. The naval jelly is an acid based product that works slowly but only attacks the rust and doesnt scratch as mentioned above. If you take some Naval Jelly and apply with a horsehair brush and leave it sit as directed it will disolve it without any other damage to the chrome surface. If you want it off fast, (muratic acid) works fast but burns the hell out of the nose hairs. "Be careful with that stuff." These are all really good suggestions mentioned by the others. For me I guess it depends on if your pipes are chrome or just painted black. Edited March 19, 2009 by R. Rollins Quote
