shogs Posted February 7, 2009 Report Posted February 7, 2009 I know its stupid but i've never bought tires for either of my quads and my z400 needs them bad. I'm going with maxxis razrs or kenda knarleys and am looking at rockymountainatv.com for them. My size is Rear: AT 20 x 10-9 and Front: AT 22 x 7-10. Can someone tell me what sizes will fit my rims because I don't understand how you can go up one size on width or height and they still fit on the rim. Can someone clear this up for me please because I want to order them today or tomorrow. Thanks guys Quote
2001Stroker Posted February 7, 2009 Report Posted February 7, 2009 I'm sure you know how the sizing works. But I'll explain for anyone who doesn't know. 20x10x9 = 20" overall height x 10" tread width x 9" rim diameter. For rear tires, you can put whatever height you want, as long as it fits under the fenders. Width needs to be 0"-2" larger than the rim diameter, so the tread doesn't balloon up. I like 10" wide tires on 10" wide rims, so the tread sits completely flat, to get more contact area. The rim size has to be the same. Front tires, you want ballooned, if you're offroad riding. You probably have 5" width rims. Go with a 7" wide tire, to purposely balloon the tires. Choosing your tire height, depends on what you're doing with your bike. If you'r riding MX, you want a smaller height tire, to get the bike a little lower, and to help the engine to be able to use all of it's torque. Trail, you'd want something taller, to make more clearance under the bike. Now, what do you plan on doing with your bike? Quote
shogs Posted February 7, 2009 Author Report Posted February 7, 2009 I'll be doing strictly trails and a little open areas. I want a strong sidewall as well. I think I'm going with the maxxis razr's. So will the 20x11x9 6 plys work for me? I noticed you said 0 to -2 in size. Does that mean you can go up to 2 sizes smaller but none bigger? RMATV only has razr 2's for the fronts but they have my size - 22x7x10. Quote
harbinger of death Posted February 7, 2009 Report Posted February 7, 2009 he meant between 0 and 2 inches bigger, not -2". I run 22's on my shee for more ground clearance, but if you go taller on your z you might have to regear it Quote
2001Stroker Posted February 7, 2009 Report Posted February 7, 2009 Sorry, I said 0-2" larger than the rim diameter. I meant no wider than 0-2" wider than the rim width. My bad, I was typing faster than I was thinking. So, if your rims are 10" wide use a 10-12" wide tire. Quote

Their the tires in my sig. Quote
locogato11283 Posted February 7, 2009 Report Posted February 7, 2009 between those two i would run kendas. ive been using them forever and they are a good tire. i also run stock yfz450 tires with great results. i am gonna give these a shot next.. http://farmandsandtoys.com/partdetail.asp?partid=174 Quote
shogs Posted February 8, 2009 Author Report Posted February 8, 2009 Ended up going with the maxxis razr 2's up front and razrs in the back. Thats what rmatv had. I didn't think they had my size in knarleys but if I knew I woulda got them. Hopefully these razrs hold up. The stocks are nice but I was dumb and road on my driveway too much so there bald. I'll be sure to let ya guys know how they work. Quote

Yea well I will see. They are 6ply and I ride where they're is a lot of rocks and random shit that makes it bumpy from time to time. The knarleys didn't seem to have much of a sidewall. I never ride dunes and i'll be off the road after my new tires. If anyone wants a set of bald tires for spikes or smooth buffs (whatever they're called) i'll get rid of them cheap. Quote

Everyone says that... and I'll admit they dig at low RPMs, but I have no problems getting up on top and floating over that shit... Quote
