Banshee-Predator_Owner Posted January 2, 2009 Report Posted January 2, 2009 On my center crank bearings, when i spin them i hear a clicking sound? i fear this is excessive wear on the balls, but im wondeing if this sound is normal when the bearings are dry? Quote
BigRed350x Posted January 2, 2009 Report Posted January 2, 2009 A little noise is normal if the bearings are dry in my experience. How much time do you have on the crank? When you spin them slowly by hand, can you feel the click at all? Quote

I bought the crank from a person on this fourm, its a hot rod crank, i can spin the middle bearings like a top, but theres that clicking noise, but there is no drag or hang up when i roll them over by hand, last night i sprayed all the bearings down with wd-40 and the center ones get quieter and the the outer ones started to make noise just like the center ones, and they were quite before, so i feel a little better Quote
BigRed350x Posted January 2, 2009 Report Posted January 2, 2009 Try to move the outer bearings sideways. Put a torsional load on them and see if there is any movement. If there is, I'd at least replace the outer bearings. If there isn't any lateral movement and everything feels right and there isn't any sort of excessive rod movement (a little left/right movement on the rod is ok, just don't want any kind of up/down movement) then I'd run it. Just be sure to check it out good. If you're still wondering, take it to a local shop and have them look it over (but they might tell you its bad and try to get you to buy one from them) or take it to your closest builder and have them check it out. shanYE west Posted January 2, 2009 Report Posted January 2, 2009 Is that the crank that I sold you? If it is, the stator side bearing is a lil over a year old and I sent you a brand new PTO side bearing. The crank is OEM that was rebuilt with hotrods and was in the banshee (2001) when I bought it. I cant say for sure how old the center bearings are. When I got the bike I split the motor and re did all the seals and put new outer bearings on. Rode it for about a year and a half with no problems. Center bearing looked good to me and I couldn't find any play. I even took it up took it to a shop for a second opinion and they said it looked good too. But if there is any problem with it let me know and I'll take care of it. Quote
