alexmarq1986 Posted November 23, 2008 Report Posted November 23, 2008 Well im new to the banshee world and to 2 strokes in general (used to own a z400). Well this week im getting a 2001 banshee (its in shipping truck as i type) and i need jetting help, really dont know anything about jetting but ive been doing some research on these forums. The banshee is pretty much stock from what the seller said, all it has is: FMF fattys boysen reeds reed spacers boost bottle (getting rid of it as soon as i get the oem crossover) The guy had it jetted properly but the elevation where im at is different: his elevation is around 950 ft and my elevation is 3985 ft What am i going to have to do to get it running right for my elevation and also where do you recommend to get a jet kit. I hope when i get it this week everything makes more sence to me. Thanks in advance. Quote
RUDEDAWG Posted November 23, 2008 Report Posted November 23, 2008 (edited) I would say 280 mains. I run 270 and I am at 4850'. Maybe start bigger like 300 and work your way down and do plug chops until you hit pay dirt assuming it has stock carbs. Just my 02. Magic racing is a good place to get jets from. Paddleboy Posted November 23, 2008 Report Posted November 23, 2008 i wouldnt even waste money buying the kit. just go the the local dealer and pick some up. they are like 6 bucks for the pair. get a few pairs and play with that air screw untill it runs right Quote

Is the main jet the only i will have to change or the pilot also? Quote
Paddleboy Posted November 23, 2008 Report Posted November 23, 2008 most likely the main. i tried bumpin my pilot but it ran like shit so i moved it back down. just a game of runing good and bad untill you get it right Quote
alexmarq1986 Posted November 23, 2008 Author Report Posted November 23, 2008 (edited) so im going to buy the jets and buy in mains: 2 270, 2 280, 2 290 and 2 300. Do you think that will work for me? and also do you think ill have to buy pilots too? Edited November 23, 2008 by alexmarq1986 Quote
Paddleboy Posted November 23, 2008 Report Posted November 23, 2008 i'd get a set of 280, 300, 320, and try those out. come in on your air screw also Quote
alexmarq1986 Posted December 25, 2008 Author Report Posted December 25, 2008 i'd get a set of 280, 300, 320, and try those out. come in on your air screw also Just to update this tread the banshee also has no lid and a k&n with the pro design adaptor and the carbs had 290 mains in it and I put 280s to compensate for the elevation change. So it has that, fmf fatties, boyesen reeds and spacers. I am at about 3900 elev. So does the 280 sound right I think Im still running a bit rich at wot, should I go down to 270? Quote

Read up on the plug chop. but im at 1500 feel and just ordered 10 jets off ebay for 25.00 shipped. I had 310's but need to do a plug chop and go from there. as for the pilot jet. i have the 25 and was going to jump up to the 27.5's but it already runs great down low and mid. but have to find the top and see if im rich or not. But best of luck. Quote

Guy I bought it from said he had it jetted properly for 1000 asl and he had 290s in there, I'm at around 3900 asl so from reading around 2 jet sizes down right? Quote
alexmarq1986 Posted January 3, 2009 Author Report Posted January 3, 2009 Ok I did the plug chop today but I can't cut around the threads of the plugs and I was wondering if I can just use my bench grinder to grind of the threads or will the heat from the grinding cause a wrong reading in the plug Quote
