regalrocket Posted November 6, 2008 Report Posted November 6, 2008 I just did an entire stock system for my machine. Instead of an oven, i used a torpedo heater, which works great. I am a welder and the torpedo heater is used alot for preheating large parts. I built a real quick sheetmetal 3 sided enclosure around the parts and dangled the parts in front of the heater in the enclosure. It worked great. This paint when cured, is like a rock. You can cure it on the machine, but not all of the exhaust system will get hot enough to cure the paint, and until its cured, it is not resistant to solvents. In short, amazing stuff. I have seen many products as an aircraft mechanic and drag car fabricator. This is in my top ten list of cheap but cool stuff. Quote
2strokecook Posted November 6, 2008 Report Posted November 6, 2008 does the paint on the cylinders not hold the heat in? i realize that they do have a coatin from factory, but i jsut figured the more tickness ya add the to paint, the more heat it is goin to keep in the cylinders. it might not be a big factor.... just curious...?? Quote

In some cases it will help like coating your case and exhaust will help keep extra heat away from the cylinders. As far as coating the cylinders there really isn't much difference if any at all. A larger difference would be if you powder coated them, but even still it's not really going to matter. Quote
278 Posted December 31, 2008 Author Report Posted December 31, 2008 Just wanted to give another update, I did my clutch cover in this way... Then I used the Dupli color engine enamel clear coat on the pipes, cylinders, and cover and they came out even better, but you don't have to bake the clear coat just spray it on... do 3 coats wait about 10 minutes in between coats Quote
