Need someone to rebuild a crank
lambchop replied to JasonsBanshee's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
http://www.crankworks.com/ Talk to these. They really know their thuff -
Desert machine in Mesa. He has a pretty cool set up behind his home. He's good friends with the guy that started and used to own Banshee Shaq.
-
They are not sleeved. I know I thought about that, but I didn't spend that much for the porting and I figured on the next build I would go to aftermarket jugs if I fall in love with this bike. Can I not still resleeve it if I need to? I've never ran sleeves before.
-
He actually did say 189, I just rounded to 190
-
I'm not sure on the transfer. I will measure, but he did tell me that 190 on the exhaust. He said he didn't want to go to big and that he left some there for future mods. He said that will everything else I have it would match up nicely. 66.5 bore, WSM pistons, 18cc head, +4 timing, T5 pipes and silencers, stock carbs, Boyesen reeds, K&N lid removed. 50/50 race gas. Really looking forward to going to Glamis for my first time really soon. Can you recommend a good tire/rim with paddle count/size for my bike on stock gearing? Thanks

How the heck did "boost bottles" make it onto my new porting thread. You should be ashamed of yourselves.
-
True dat. Gotta finish painting the frame then, Look out Thumpers
-
I guess what i was looking for was someone to say that they look GOOD! Cause lord knows I didn't want to get screwed, but I guess everyone needs a good screwing now and again

GOT BEAT BY A STOCK BANSHEE WITH A MILLED HEAD AND PIPES
lambchop replied to tapout_54's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
Have you compared what your compression is vs. his? If you beat him in the past it could have been because your compression was higher. Also, maybe he has a boost bottle and didn't tell you -
He told me what he did but I can't remember the numbers. I will call him and get him to tell me the exact measurements he used.
-
T5 pipes and silencers, factory carbs, 66.5 bore, stock stroke with HotRod crank, stock cages Boyesen carbon reed petals, planning on going with a K&B filter setup with factory airbox (good/bad?), and looking to have the heads worked on but might just buy a dome setup.

Is the Boost port drilling those "worm holes"? What does it do for performance. I don't want a full on Dune machine as I do plan on doing some trail riding, but still want to smoke thumpers!!
-
This is my first machine ever having any port work done other than a clean-up. This guy mostly does Harleys and thumpers, but said he has done some Banshees. Any think look out of the norm?

HE flushed it really good in the wash tank and he had brand new solvent. There was a ton of dirt in the case when we split it. It feels like it may have some flaking or something chipped because when I roll the bearing really slow and find that spot it never moves. It's always the same location. That's a pretty cool trick with the water. Should I be trying to acheive 150-160 PSI or is there an optimum number you try to acheive? I don't think he's using a belt planer. He has all kinds of full-on machinist equipment and is really good

So I started my build. I had a mild dune port done. Went with the WSM pistons (they look really trick and wanted to try something new). The bore was already at 66, but was done sloppy and the 66 Wisecos that were in it had way to much play. So my machinist recommended boring to 66.25 and do it right this time. I showed up and he had ordered 66.5. Anyway, we split the case to check everything and replace the seals but noticed one main bearing has a little rough part (when you roll the bearing you can feel one area that isn't smooth rolling). It's barely noticable. I really can't afford to have the crank rebuilt right now, but i know now is the time to do it. It is a Hot Rod crank for what it's worth. I run good oil I'm just concerned about the reliability. All the other bearings feel fine and the crank feels tight. Also, Anyone think the stock carbs will be OK. Damn this quad is costing me alot and I havn't even rode it yet!!! Anyone a machinist? The guy who did my porting and bore has the tools, but has never done a head before. I was wondering if anyone had some hands on experience to steer us in the right direction to increase my compression. I don't want to run straight race fuel but don't mind running 50/50 if I need too. Thanks in advance. One more thing. Is the Clutch basket supposed to have any play on that gear it's mounted to? Mine has a little slop in it.

Hey desert I'm out in Mesa and new to the area. Doing a mild build on a 99' Shee. Hoping to have it done in about 2 weeks. Wouldn't mind doing some riding when i get it done. Keep me posted when you plan something

You guys racing tomorrow due to the game? I would like some directions.

One thing I'm really interested in knowing more about these bikes is suspension setup. Everything I read says that these suspensions are pretty weak. Well, I'm a pretty big guy (230lbs) and the suspension on this really bottoms with me on it. On my bikes I could just put heavier springs on it and a racetech valving, and viola a race ready setup!! My plan is to make this a full blown sleeper. I"m not into bling (as sweet as it looks), but I love pulling up to those boys and having a stock looking setup whoop'em. I will probably ride mostly dersrt trails and dune, but I don't want to be limited to that with my suspension. What I'm getting at is, can you modify stock shocks to perform like the aftermarket ones, or close?
-
Thanks for the reply, I lust went through all the fluids. My next priorty is ditching the boost bottle and TORS. Then lighten the flywheel and advance timing. When I do the full rebuild on it I will get to the bigger items. Nice Banshee by the way Marine!!

I can't figure out to put pictures on here. Anyway here is a link http://photobucket.com/lambchopbanshee

You can see here my son already knows we have our work cut out for us. This is not my first rebuild, but it is my first Banshee. Anything you notice that is of notable concern or noticable? I'm planning on riding'er till we hit triple digit temps here in the AZ. Then me and my son wil take it down and makie it a stone cold sleeper! Anyone have stuff that you see I need for sale? It's a 99'. Only thing I really know about it it besides it runs good is that it has a .25 over bore on it and it needs alot of TLC.
-
New to Phoenix here as well and just got my first Banshee. Would like to find some people to ride with (if they don't mind my junker hanging around). Moved from TN and always had dirt bikes for motocross. Can't wait to catch some dune action myself!!!!!!!

MY FIRST BANSHEE......IDEAS OR TIPS?
lambchop replied to lambchop's topic in General Banshee Discussion
Well It finally arrived......... The thing is a piece of shit!!!! Some Hillbilly beat the hell out of the thing. Just spending 30 minutes going over it about everything on it needs to be replaced or rebuilt. Think this thing might cost me more than it's worth -
IT's all relevant to how you hold your mouth when you ride
