Laz and brandon pitted along side of us at the Maxxis 12 hour race last October. Very nice people. Laz is the suspension king. side note> Mike Penland and Clifton Beasly of team Can-Am pitted on the other side of our pit. Johnny gallager, taylor kiser and bill ballance all ride quads prepped by Laz.

Alot of guys don't run nerf bars cause most of the race is single file, there's not alot of side by side racing except for the first few turns on the opening lap. After you get past the first coupla laps your on a trail thats just a little wider than your quad. Nerfs are there to protect you from another quads wheels getting between your wheels. Most passes on a XC race are controlled passes.... meaning this.... if a faster rider comes up behind you, he will holler at you, literaly hoot and holler at you. You should find a safe spot along the trail to let him past you. I hear alot of guys say "I'll holler three times at a slower rider and if he still doesnt get out of the way, he's getting rammed off the trail." And they'll ram ya. Now if a guy in your class is on your tail and your racing him, then race the bastard and make him earn it to get around you. But don't hold up the faster racers. thats how it works. And back to the nerf bars subject, since only 5% of the race is side by side racing, the nerf bars are useless. The thought is.... nerf bars are just another thing that can stop your race, if they fall off or break or get caught in any of the 1000 obstacles in the race. And you'll be stopped on the track a few times, because you'll get stuck in mud, on a rock or root or you'll run into a bottleneck of racers, or whatever and its nice to be able to take your feet off your pegs and push the ground to back up, instead of hopping off the quad and grabbing it by the grab bar. The champ, Bill Ballance uses nerfs, the second fastest racer chris Borich never uses nerfs. The XC2 class used to be called the Pro-Am class. Its the second fastest class behind the Pro class. The top 3 or 4 Pro-Am guys will move up into the Pro class the following year. Brandon Sommers is dominating that class, he'll be racing with the Pro's next year. The Pro class has also been renamed for this season. Its new name is XC1. I have no idea why they changed the class names

wow thats a pretty crazy story. good to hear your ok. In all my years I'v never heard of this happening. When I got my 250r about 3 years ago, the guy I bought it from told me that the floats are set a little high and it will leak gas out the overflow if I leave the gas petcock on. Well one day I parked the quad with the gas on and came back a few days later. No gasoline under the quad at all. In fact It didnt even cross my mind about the floats and the petcock. So I hop on the quad and step down on the kickstarter and its rock solid. Won't budge. I was like "WTF, I just bot this quad and its locked up allready !!" , just about that time the kickstarter started to move downward, I could move the piston, just barely, but it was moving, a little more effort and I got the piston to TDC. So now the pistons moving up and down with the kickstarter, but it was real hard to move the piston. After one complete cycle of the piston it got alot easier to kick, and the more I worked on moving the piston up and down, the easier it got. So after 5 minutes of wrestling with the kickstarter, I started to give it some real kicks. It wouldnt start. Just about that time I could hear fluids.... in my exhaust pipe. Coupla kicks later the gas was rocketing out my silencer every time I kicked. The first squirt of gas that came out the silencer shot atleast 10 feet, I had the kill switch off BTW. It took me about 30 good solid kicks till the gas stopped shooting out my silencer. No explosions, but its a similar story to yours.

Chirs Borich takes the win at the wiseco john penton and makes it 4 in a row. Chris Jenks takes second, Bill ballance takes third.

:biggrin: Now use this as a lesson on how to control your temper. next time you have any problems with the quad, don't get "f'n pissed", but instead try to use the basic troubleshooting techniques and a little common sense. Funny story tho.... funny as in.... you wrote up a thread and it turns out you were just outta gas.... classic. :biggrin:

ya yokley I guess he's still dialing-in the quad. Ya'd think being on a factory team they'd have most of the issues hashed out by the second race of the season. I'v heard he had a coupla bad starts and thats tought to work your way back to the front of the pack, especialy trying to catch guys like ballance borich and bithell. Borich had two terrible starts at the first two races of the season, the one race he was dead last off the line cause the quad wouldnt fire up. Both of those races he placed 2nd. Thats how fast this kid is. Came from last place, through all the Pro class riders and finished 2nd. For the third race of this season he had the starting problem fixed. Turned out to be a mechanical problem, it wasnt chris fault. he knows how to kickstart a 450r. Curtis Sparks built him a new motor and it fires up every time you kick it. Chris hasn't lost with this new motor and had no more starting problems. The thing with Yokley is, last year he was on a brand new machine, the Suzuki 450 and he did better than what he's doing on the Kawi this year. It was good to see ol matt smiley back on the podium at the loretta lynn gncc. Smiley lives kinda close, he's about 50 or 60 miles east of my place. They're racing the John Penton tomorrow. Its somewhere in Ohio. I'd like to chris borich win first place tomorrow and have bill ballance come in 17th :biggrin:

Not to change the subject but there is a hospital in texas that delivers I think something like 68 illegal immgants babies A DAY. There is only about 12 american women that give birth there each day. The republicans are fucking this country up. Im done going on my rant. :ermm: Is the governer of California a Republican or Democrate ?? Is the governer of Texas a Republican or Democrate ?? What does the Governator of California have to say about all these Mexicans in his state ? Has the illegal immigrant problem gotten better or worse over the past 7 years ??
