  1. I'm trying to decide between PT Mids with the quiet silencers and FMF Gnarlies with Q SA Silencers. I need sparkies and prefer quieter silencers to avoid ranger troubles. Mostly ride trails. Any advise would be helpful.
  2. How about increasing displacement? I know that my YZ 490 once ported and with a big fly wheel weight was one of the best trail bikes I've ever owned. I'd rather modify the quad I bought brand new then try and trade it for something I don't know the history of. I also prefer 2 strokes over 4 strokes from a maintenance perspective. If there's no way to get the power to be more tractor like then I guess I'll need to think about trading it. So could $2000-2500 get the engine to produce more 4-stroke like power, or is it always going to be stay on the throttle and clutch?
  3. I just got back from a weekend riding my wife's beat up 400EX at an old abandoned Gravel Quarry. I find my self mostly riding trails and the occaisional short hill climb. I've grown tired of cleaning sand out of EVERYTHING. This weekend the old 4 stroke was alot easier to ride than my Banshee, and I noticed that I could go some places my buddies on their Banshee's wouldn't. So my question is if I get the Banshee ported and get some gnarlies or PT Mids will it feel more 4 stroke like on hill climbs and trails or will I still be clutching like mad or spinning the tires?
  4. I meant when the engine is cold, at 70 deg it won't idle with the choke. Is this normal. All of my old 2 stroke bikes would idle with the choke until the engine warmed up.
  5. Whoops, meant half throttle. K, starting a little easier now, but still won't idle when cold. Should I take it back to the dealer and make them adjust it or just write it off and do it myself. Just kinda pissed because it's brand new and all, and I have to sit there with my thumb applying light pressure for 10 minutes warming up.
  6. Ok, took my new Shee out for it's first run yesterday. Took 10+ kicks to get it started with choke, wouldn't idle cold had to keep light pressure on the Throttle to keep it running. Finally 10 minutes later just gave up and crept off to let it finish warming up moving. Never took it past half throttle. After cruising for awhile and running it through the gears ended up at the end of the trail and had to flip a cookie, it would barely stay running in 1st gear, and I noticed a wierd smell, like super hot metal, couldn't smell coolant though. Once I finally got it turned around cruised back to the truck , ran just fine, just hates first gear. Get back to the truck and notice coolant level in the res is right at the min mark, was at the Max mark before I left. Noticed that same hot metal smell and decided to pack it in. Checked coolant level this morning and it's just below the min mark on the res. Was riding on flat ground same elevation as the dealer I bought it from, Temp was about 69 Deg F., And never took it above *edit* half throttle. (Sorry, hasn't been to WOT yet.) First question, is it possible I overheated the engine? Second question, do dealers actually start these things and make sure they run before sending them out? Third question, should I use that much coolant (From the Max mark to the Min mark on a cold engine, no signs of leaking or overflow) in about 30 minutes of riding? Fourth question, what coolant do you guys like to run? Any help would be much appreciated, this is my first brand new bike and I'm just a little paranoid about it. *edit* Stock 06 SE
  7. Sorry didn't post the area, I'm in Dixon, Ca about 25 miles west of Sacramento. Looking for dirt atm, pulled my gear bag out and some form of rodent decided to take up residence, so the paddle and rim money is going for new boots and a helmet instead. *EDIT* And thanks for the warm welcome.
  8. New member here, just bit the bullet and ordered an '06 SE, it's in a crate on the way from LA, ETA of Tuesday. Looking for places to ride and people to ride with in Northern California.
