Getting mini dv video onto the computer (how)

if you have a firewire port i believe it should say 1394 at it. Or check your devise manager as well just in case -

yup my sony hc series was able to do it that way but my canon couldnt. Seems stupid but I guess there is some reasoning behind it. From what I understand firewire transfers better that USB but I really dont know if that holds true or not -

This is true that almost all camcorders have a USB hook up but a lot of them including canon will only transfer stills from that. A firewire is needed for video. My elura 100 is like that. Here is a link for the ZR user group on camcorderinfo dot com. http://www.camcorderinfo.com/bbs/f9 Find out what model number it is and look around there. It will tell you everything you need to know -

a lot of camcorders cant use USB to transfer video to the computer. You prob need a firewire cable. If you dont have a firewire card on the comp you will prob need to buy one. There like $20 for the card and $20 for the cable, but you can get a firewire cable off ebay for like $5 instead -
I went with the Canon Elura 100. It was like $350 but I spent an extra $100 for the 4yr no questions asked warrenty through best buy. Even if I bring the camcorder back in pieces they have to replace it. I figured since i ride mostly woods and tough terrain it was the only way. Plus it takes great video for a lower end camcorder.

i thought there was no real such thing as 520? or maybe that was 580 but I heard something about it just being a marketing push for their product
-
if thats the 480 line RES one i just got that about a week ago. Haven t had the chance to test it out on the trails myself but did hook it up and record a few things around my house through the bullet cam lens to make sure it worked and I'm pretty surprised with the quality. But looking at the set-up itself, i think i could prob make it for about $50 if I looked around for separate parts

I was looking for a nice camelpack to use so I can also stay hydrated when riding. One thing I find kinda odd is how the mic is hooked up for the helmet cam. Its pretty far down the wiring so it seems the mic would have to be enclosed in the pack so it doesnt flop around or get screwed up by any water/mud. I did hook it up and I must say the picture quality is great for such a little devise. Only thing that I dont care for it the bullet cam itself has to be lined up perfectly or the picture going through it wont be straight. That could be a PITA when mounting it in different locations. Has the mount the cam slides into held up good for you with out and twisting or anything from the bullet cam itself? I may rig something else up for better stability but who knows. As for the LANC remote, I dont believe the Elura 100 is able to use that. I have a wireless remote I can use but it will basically be a guessing game with battery life and record time. I guess I will just have to use my stop watch to manage the time so I can be ready to switch out tapes/batteries.

I have a degree and I cant remember that crap for anything ::

yeah normally the case but I needed a harness clip for wiring on one of my quads and couldn't find it anywhere and for some reason radio shack had the exact one I needed. I was just throwing it out there just in case. At least you got it ordered already
-
Yeah I heard the 480 was the way to go so I figured why not spend a few extra $$ for it. Do you use any different lenses for it? Also kinda off topic but do you transfer the vids you take to your comp? What program do you use if so, I have a few different ones but just not sure what captures the best. Some of them seem to use a lot of PC RAM and it gets a little iffy.
-
do you just need the connector piece? I think Radio shack has them, thats where I find all my new connectors when I need them

Yup Southampton is basically my area. I heard a little bit about that situation but didnt really pay much attention to it. Although the trash people do suck ass at their job round here. Half the time they are F'd up on something. One guy tried to tell me he wasn't going to take a small ass piece of wood unless I gave him gratuity, so I threw it into the back of the truck myself. Some shady ass people round these parts if ya ask me, my crap is locked up tight. I'm always game for a ride but it looks like my quads are getting sold this week so i'm in the hunt for another one. Still got my RM250 though

isnt moneygram what most scammers use as a way of payment?
-
well guys just figured I would update this. Went with the Canon Elura 100. Wasnt to pricey, about $370, then got the 4yr plan on it where if it breaks or anything I get a new one with no questions asked, etc. Takes care of the chance of crashing and it breaking in pieces. Also went with the bulletcam 480 line option. Waiting on that to arrive, hopefully be here anyday now but will prob take forever to show up like everything else.

are you running a fuel filter by chance? My shee kept dying out when i would stab the throttle. Replaced the ign coil and it didn't solve anything. Noticed the bowls would fill with gas but as soon as you tried to get on it the fuel wouldn't keep up and it would die out on me. Pulled the fuel filter and hasn't done it since.

the security cam seems like a cheap way to go but the conditions I ride in I dont know if it would hold up. Like mentioned someone else used it and it didnt last real long. Maybe if I was out west in the open areas with sand it would but I deal directly with tight single track when on my RM with tons of trees, rocks etc. I think I'm going with the Bullet cam since it also offers a warranty. Also looks like the Canon Elura 100 is going to be the camcorder or choice as well

Just bringing this back up. I was going to go with the bulletcam with 480 lines and came across something like this... http://cgi.ebay.com/WIRELESS-ATC-2000-COLO...1QQcmdZViewItem Anyone have any input on something like this? This would make life pretty damn simple if its just strap on and go. Wouldnt have to worry about busting up my camcorder on some nice NE trails where i ride. Either way no big deal. Just thought I would ask.

I'm in Holland pa which is also considered Southampton. Not far from you, where do you ride?
-
I'm in Lower Bucks County, I guess its NE of Philly. I use to be able to ride like 5 minutes from my house but they built all these new houses kinda near the area and the people bitch all the time. But they dont care a freight train goes right through there back yard, but ATV exhaust noise is worse to them :: So now when I get the little time I have I normally have to drive up north, either the pocono area or around Paragon, Tower City, etc. All depends if I bring my dirt bikes or my quads where I go
-
I have whacked my head many times, I always kinda wake up then try to get more comfortable and I grab my pillow and basically slam my head back down. Only my pillows rest on my headboard counter and I normally end up hitting that pretty hard. Never got bloody but have woken up with a huge lump before and even a black eye when I went down face first. Ended up getting more pillows to cover it so it doesnt happen as much now

any updates?

there use to be a site called STOLENVIN dot com but what a lot of people didnt know was, the only way the VIN would show up hot is if the person who had it stolen posted the VIN on that site as stolen. A lot of people use to base their VINS off that site and always figured it was clear cause it came back clean. A lot of the Check VIN sites are like that.

just outside philly here, sucks ass cause everything is getting taken away and I'm tired of having to drive hours just to ride. Its costing to much ::
