you have heard correctly. you would definitely enjoy a set of stock cylinders with a MX or dune/play port much more than a set of cubs in the trails. no matter how you set up the cubs as far as pipes, carbs, tires, gearing, etc. oh, and good luck getting a cub motor to hook up in the trails and if you do then the front end will come up. then if you try to prevent the front end from coming up with a longer swing arm then you'll be taking away from your manueverability. trust me, along with the others, we speak from experience. i bought my shee new and like others have gone through different stages, as far as pipes and ported stock cylinders to the 421 cub motor and this is the worst set up for the trails that i have ever ridden. the cub motor is one hell of a blast in the open or in a drag race where it was designed for.
well said. and i've noticed that when you do come off the pipe in a higher gear you'll need to slow down and down shift in order to get back on the pipe instead rolling back on the throttle like i was usually able to do with other set ups. of course my gearing could have an effect on this but mainly it's because it has a peakier HP characteristic than my other set ups.
