You probably noticed when you first went to the forums this morning that I sectioned off all forums into 3 new categories... General Forums, Mods & Parts Forums, and Racing Forums. The third category now includes the newly added Drag and MX forums. Please direct all Drag and MX discussion to those forums, this will help clean up the General Discussion forum in a big way. In any circumstance where a website requires payment for further information or added feature accessiblity (whether it be the NY Times Online, CNN.com, a porno site, or hotornot.com), there is always question as to where the money goes. However, all of these are businesses covering business expenses and overhead. Yes, the BansheeHQ is technically now a business because I charge companies to advertise. Any money left over after the overhead is paid, is usually put back into the site in some way or another, whether it be labor, merchandising, or promotional aspects. But I don't like to think of the BansheeHQ as a business per-say... It's a community, and more of a hobby and passion of mine. If I had to guestimate how much it would cost each member.... The system for yours and my own convenience, would be either billed Bi-Yearly (every 6 months), or Yearly on a pre-pay basis. Most likely it won't go up and online until I have a considerable amount of features and offerings. I'm estimating it will be between $60-$70 per year. That comes out to be around $6 per month.

I work for a web hosting company as a programmer, I'm not a college kid. If I was to host the HQ anywhere else other than the company I work for, I'd be paying a lot more than what I'm paying now. (Yes they make me pay even though I work for them) I've provided some stats to show just how big this site is: -Monthly the site averages 1.8 million hits -Monthly the site averages 500,000+ page views -Monthly the site averages 29,335 unique visitors -The size in megabytes of the HQ not counting log files or database size, is, at time of this writing, 297 MB. -The database in megabytes is 384 MB -Web Logs for reporting are currently 805 MB for 3 months of reporting. -Each email account I provide currently and in the future will cost me per account due to the spam/virus filtering used on the server. -I reject advertising inquiries from every company that is not a banshee-related company. All advertisers are relavent to the site and/or the Banshee. -I pay for the hosting company's WebTrends Enterprise server to analyze the web log files, for accurate reporting to our valued advertisers. 50 megs a month isn't going to cut it for the HQ. It will eventually go onto it's own server. $1500+. Stuff costs money. And that is why I get advertisers and sell site/banshee related items. Communities cost money. I'm not the type to beg for it, I try to provide things for the members which will help them, but help support the sites financial needs as well. Not to line my pockets.

Ben, you are a wishlist god. lol Let's see if i can reply to this. These ideas are awesome. I want the HQ to become a BETTER source than the magazines for Reviews, race results and schedules. I'm definitely going to redesign the gallery so that you can submit the pics online and add/edit pics in your profile. It'll probably be more directory-based. And Searchable. On the homepage I'll have a snippet of things for the premium account that if you want to see the whole thing & all the articles/reviews/etc. you can log in (if you have a premium account). This is what CNN and NY Times do now. I'd like to develop a search engine in the premium section for searching Banshee-related sites. Sort of like www.dmoz.org style. A categoried FAQ section would be great too. I could do that. The articles/faqs/and race results would probably come from a group of freelancers, which I would compensate in some way, which I would come up with a good plan for that. When I get a second server I will put up a place for premium members to upload/create a website or server-space for pics. The sites would be viewable to the general public and would probably have a domain like http://members.bansheehq.com/yourscreenname/ I think that would be really cool. Just a side note, in a week or so (i'll post the downtime date), the HQ is moving to a new web server. I will be installing the forums on there from scratch/clean so even though all of the posts will STILL be there, and it'll look the same, a few mods will be installed (Photo Album mod) and some others i have kicking around here. Also, I will be asking a few of you individually to become "contributor" moderators of certain forums. Basically watch-dogs to make sure the posts arent' getting out of hand. You all know what I mean. Same idea as all the big forums out there. If anyone knows a company that sells blank dune flags or anyone who prints on them, let me know. I will look into getting them to sell on the site. I know a lot of you dune rider's want them and that's cool with me. I'd love to offer them. These are all awesome ideas. Exactly what I need to hear is what you, the members want. It would be great to get some industry pros doing Q&A. I'll do what I can to get that one included. Also, I would give a decal out to any new premier member to start with. I hope to get some new HQ products available in the near future (water bottles, shirts, HQ Banshee parts, etc.) As far as the yourname@bansheehq.com, I wasn't referring to a website, but moreover an email account. Though a website is a good idea, I will have to check what I can do on that. (Server permitting at this point in time). But keep the ideas coming in, what you would like to get from the site. I take all of the ideas into consideration and will work to get them on the Premium/Premier account. The site, the way it is, will remain free. I will not take away anything I've provided for free when I initiate the premium account. The free exchange of ideas and info is what keeps all of us coming back to the site day after day. But is planet sand as cool as the HQ? I bet planet sand doesn't offer exceptional Spam/Virus blocking included, that you don't have to install on your pc. Pondering an idea. And guys (and gals), I need to know if this is something most of you would be interested in. I am considering creating a Premier Members account area where you could log in, and see Microfiche, special downloads, special deals from our vendors, and what we feel is great, a "your_forum_name@bansheehq.com" email address (with excellent Virus and Spam blocking built in.). The fee would be on a yearly basis, prepay. My goal is to be able to provide as much cool stuff to all of you as I can, but, it all takes funding and it all takes time. With a premier account I would be able to do just that... So that you can get more out of the HQ than just these great forums and classifieds. Regardless of whether or not they agree with the decisions of the United States government, a public entertainment figure should not insult their own country and it's leader or show public disrespect. If they're going to voice their opinions about the president or his decisions... do it off the clock. go protest on the weekend but the fact that they stood up and made those remarks on stage says a lot about their lack of patriotism.
