sweetshee4312 Posted July 20, 2004 Report Posted July 20, 2004 i ahev to take my engine back out and put new seals on it.... i was woundering, can i leave my top end on, and jusy pull the bottom case off, so i dont have to ruin all those new gaskets? Quote
svtkid78 Posted July 20, 2004 Report Posted July 20, 2004 What seals are you trying to replace? Quote
locogato11283 Posted July 20, 2004 Report Posted July 20, 2004 just take the top end off. its gonna take you a lot longer to get the pistons back in the cylinders that way. youll need like 3 sets of hands. i know i wouldnt try it like that. i wouldnt wanna risk fuckin something up. and yea, what seals you need to replace? also, you arent gonna just pull the bottom out. youll end up having it flat on a bench and taking the top half off. Quote
roosthrower Posted July 21, 2004 Report Posted July 21, 2004 You can replace the crank seals without taking off the top end. I just did it about a week ago. just flip the motor upside down and pull the bottom case away from the upper case and cylinders. Quote
sweetshee4312 Posted July 21, 2004 Author Report Posted July 21, 2004 ok good... i need to replace the right crank seals Quote
itsaripper Posted July 21, 2004 Report Posted July 21, 2004 Roosthrower I have heard that done befor. Did you take the halves clear apart or just lift bottom up enough to get seals in? If you didn't take clear off how did you reseal the inside case lines? Quote
alcoholbanshee Posted July 21, 2004 Report Posted July 21, 2004 Take the bottom half completely off the top half and reaseal with silicone. Quote
roosthrower Posted July 21, 2004 Report Posted July 21, 2004 Take the bottom half completely off the top half and reaseal with silicone. what he said. I used yamabond when I reassembled the cases. Quote
nater006 Posted July 22, 2004 Report Posted July 22, 2004 Yamabond #4 for re-sealing. I did exactly this (thanks Walter for the advice on it, too) a few months ago to swap out gear clusters but didn't want to rip the whole engine apart. Flip the engine on its head (literally), pull the case bolts from the bottom and top, and pull the bottom of the case off. If you need to replace the seal behind the main gear, you're going to almost certainly need an impact wrench to get the nut off of the crank on that side. Quote
sweetshee4312 Posted July 22, 2004 Author Report Posted July 22, 2004 do i have to take my fly wheel off??? j/w whats the point of doing it should the cases lift off even if the flywheel and stator are still on? Quote
roosthrower Posted July 22, 2004 Report Posted July 22, 2004 you have to take off the flywheel, stator, timing plate, clutch assembly, and one little clip near the clutch assembly. then you are good to go. Quote
nater006 Posted July 22, 2004 Report Posted July 22, 2004 Yeah, flywheel/stator/timing plate have to come off. They will hold the case together otherwise. Make sure and user a proper flywheel puller (NOT a jaw-type) to get it off, and the rest is just basic hand tools. As was mentioned, there is a small half-moon shaped piece you gotta take off. It tends to be missed . I circled it in red in this pic of my clutch-side. Quote
