New to me ‘01 banshee

Gonna post up my new banshee for y’all to see.

I bought it from a guy about 15 minutes north of Richmond Va. Guy was nice but didn’t know anything about the thing besides it had pipes, oversized gas tank and “aftermarket carbs” lol. I normally hate buying stuff without actually getting a run down on what’s done to it but I could tell whoever actually did the work to it had decent taste in parts.

From what I can tell it has the following aftermarket parts.

-Pro circuit pipes

- Noss cool head (unknown dome size as of now)

- Keihin pj’s 34mm 160mains-60 pilots

- Pod filters

- I can tell the cylinder has been ported but not extreme

- works resi front shocks

- various polished parts

That’s all I can think off the top of my head. I did a compression check on it and got 120ish on left cylinder and 130 on right cylinder.

I’ve rode it a little so far and it runs fairly decent. Hits the powerband fairly hard and quick but if I try to launch in second it’ll bog till it hits the powerband. Also it idles pretty good and starts fairly easy when cold but if I ride it for a good amount of time and let it sit and cool off for 30 minutes, it’s hell to get it started again but will start after 10-15 good kicks.

What y’all think?

Little more info I thought of. The intake boots were ripped pretty badly from the pods and boost bottle so I replaced the boots an replaced the boost bottle with the stock crossover pipe. Bought new angled pods also so the left one won’t rub the exhaust anymore. Also has V force 2’s.

My previous banshee still had the stock carbs so I’m new to the pj’s. After replacing the crack intake boots it didn’t want to idle go figure haha. So I cleaned the carbs and I currently have the choke/idle knobs turned to 45 clicks give or take 1 or 2 and the air screws 1/2 turn out from seated.

Haven’t plug chopped yet or leak down tested it but plan on it soon.

idk much about the Pjs other than the idle adjuster and CEL needle it comes with, but 60 pilot seems huge, and i am fairly certain pjs have a richer slide than the PWK as well but idk.  if it starts easy when cold with no choke and is hell to start after its warmed up, your pilot is clearly too large.

edit: sweet looking bike

Thanks. I also thought 60 pilot was big from what I’ve read about other people’s jetting experiences with the pj carbs but what throws me off is if I turn the air screw out any further than 1/2 turn it doesn’t have a crisp snappy rev from idle anymore. Does turning the air screw in richen or lean it out? I think the main might be rich also. I’m gonna mid range and full throttle plug chop it this weekend.

the main jet would have no affect at idle, but yes that is strange because if you turn it in, that is richer, out is leaner.  I do know that most people dont care for pjs and almost all people run straight up pwk carbs instead because they are easier to tune apparently.

Yea I know the main jet is 3/4 to full throttle. I think it kinda stops pulling up top after a certain point but I also might be a little lazy on shifts lol. I’ve looked at those pwk 28’s I think they are in the for sale section lol

Well I picked up a set of stock carbs that I might end up running. Got them for a good deal on the HQ swap shop page so I figured what the hell. I haven’t give up on the pjs yet but I don’t think going back to stockers will make a difference on my bike either and are a lot easier to tune in my experience. Kinda sucks that I bought new intake boots and angled 6” pods for the pjs but might end up trying to trade the set up for some nice aftermarket a arms if I end up going with the stockers.
