  2. What's up everyone, My name is Jeff and I've been riding quads out in Gordon's Well, CA for most of my life. I grew up riding a Blaster and TRX250Rs after that. Always wanted a Banshee, (and my girlfriend has a faster quad than me not for long! ) so I picked up a stock '87 for $900 just last week. Here's the original pic from the ad: I'm an avid search function user, and I have found lots of handy information on this forum thanks to many of you. When I picked it up, the guy said that the electrical system was a little messed up, which made me hesitant. The kill switch didn't work and it had one of those tether kill switches as well. The tail light didn't work but the bulb was new. All things that could be easy, maybe a little less easy? I picked it up, brought it home and took it all apart. Inside the switch, the terminals weren't making contact, so I fixed that and it was good to go. Tail light needed to be plugged in. haha! After hours of work over the weekend, this is how it turned out: I picked up some Toomey T-5's used for $240 and replaced the handle bars with renthals. The paddles and razors came in the deal. Currently I'm working on rejecting the carbs for the addition of the pipes, as well as replacing the J arm bushings. Which, here's the left side bolt and sleeve: After the main things are fixed, I'm going to drain and flush all the fluids, bleed the brakes, etc. A little about me, I'm a native of San Diego, 25 years old this friday, and I've been in the Navy for 7 years. Lived in Hawaii for 3 of those years and returned to San Diego because I missed the dunes! Anyways, Just saying hello! And thanks for all the help already! Jeff
  3. Well I have a 87 banshee and it used to run fine.. It was used a week at the dunes and after 6 days it started being very hard to start. It has good compression, new reeds, you have to kick it hard to start it and it almost wants to bog kinda but you pull the clutch in and it stops the bogging. Sounds like fuel issue but its not trust me. The headlights are as dim as a candle and its hard to start when it's hot too. I believe when I ride it, it's loosing spark and dies out. I ordered a new stator last night hoping that resolves my issue. What do you think it is? I've also been told a dirty flywheel? It might be since it was at the dunes for 6 days
  4. Ok well today i went out to get my banshee from getting a broken choke replaced. When he started up it took him like 50 + kicks. he said that im running to rich of 2 stroke oil. Is 32:1 that rich or what should i go to I was thinking of 40:1. but i don't know... any help ? btw i have a 91 banshee with a 421 stroker kit on it. Also my banshee is in a really tight spot where I cant move it and want to start it but i don't know if its neutral... does anyone know any easy way to get it in to neutral like a pattern like go all the way down the up or something like that? Thanks guys.
  5. Hello, i am new with this, i put a new transmission override 1-5 and i had problems. After finish the motor, i kick the banshee and start correctly. I started to throttle it in neutral, and inmediatly a shift enter alone and the atv start to go fast and i could stop it with the kill switch. When the motor is off the transmission Was in neutral again. I could not dissambly the banshee because or the time. But maybe you could told me some ideas about this problem. Thanks
  6. Well today i got a 87 Banshee with a 91 motor 421 stroker kit in it. well when i got it he started it up in two kicks. my experiencing with quads is a 2004 honda 400ex. So when it didn't start pushed the throttle. nothing still. My help i need is on how to properly start a banshee and what to do if the motor gets flooded. Thanks for the help

  8. I have been lurking and this site and buying better and better banshees over the last 9 months. Bought a 01 blue mostly stock and it was a blast, got used to the speed fast and had to get a more powerful one. Bought a 01 stock cylinder 4 mil. Like it, very strong, but then I ran across these to I will try to upload image to. 06 LE 421 cub with title. dan hall built,CPI inframes, elka stage 3, v force 3 reeds, +3 a arms, +4 GeForce axel, itp black wheels,all black, 35mm pwk carbs, +4in swing arm. There is a lot more and it is mint. 06 LE built for trails with title, Aggressive trail port, nerf bars, welded crank, toomey T6, spark arresters, vforce reeds, +3 a arms, + 4 g force axel, works shocks, black wheels. Got what I think is a great deal. 3500 for cub and 2500 for the other. Both were very very clean. Here are some pics. Here comes the bad part. Got the cub home. Ran it for 20 minutes and it broke a rod. No I was not giving it hell. Took of at 75% and heard a crunch. Had not been at full throttle yet on it. Broke the cases in three spots. Pulled it apart and it beat up the cylinder skirt in some place. It was pretty bad. Sent it to Kevin at Herr Jugs since he had so much good feedback here. Man he lives up to it. He saved my cylinders!!! His estimate cam in under and he was super prompt even over the holidays. I sent the engine off before Christmas and it is on its way back right now. He was super responsive and personable through the entire process. Thanks Kevin!!!! I will try to get it installed in the next few weeks. I live in Indiana so we won't have any good riding for a while but when it warms up look out. If anyone wants to ride in central Indiana let me know. I have 4 banshees to choose from and I am ready to ride. So are my friends. Cheers, Quinn

  16. Ran my banshee for about an hour today after I repacked the silencers. It was running perfect. My neighbor who's an ex-pro motocross rider, hopped on next and took it for a spin. He was running it really hard (compared to how I ride it) for about 5 mins. He came down the last straight away in our track and ripped thru the gears and it was still running perfect. As he pulled off the track, he rolled up to where we standing, he hit the kill switch. It sat for about 1 min and he went to take it for another ride. Instead of kicking it, he attempted to roll start it out of laziness. But when the tires turned the engine over, all I heard was the engine bog. As the tires rolled I could hear him hitting the throttle. Didn't fire once. Checked around for loose wires, don't seem to see any. Pulled the plugs, they were saturated in gas. Grabbed each plug in my hand and kicked it over. Neither side shocked me. So no spark. Any one know what could go wrong within that short of a time period. Ran fine until the kill switch was flipped. I took apart the kill switch and cleaned it. Still nothing . Any ideas of what I need to check next. Thanks guys.
  17. Hey guys, need an axle for a banshee I recently picked up. Left side threads are stripping and can't get it tight enough to put the cotter pin in. For anyone near phoenix I also have some stuff I'm looking for but will probably just end up ordering online - 6 pack rack - Paddle Tires + sand fronts - oil dip stick cap (filler cap) - new silencer core tubes (toomey) - spark arrestor Let me know what you have!

  19. my hotrods 4 mill 115 long rod crank just came in so im currently in the prosses of putting that in, just waiting on some seals and stuff, but i have a friend thats talking alot of shit and thinks his stock piped and jetted crf450r is the most powerful bike there ever was. and everybody in town is sick of it. so i need to be able to walk all over him on pump gas. im gonna get some v force 4s, adjustable timing plate and a cool head, and i already have T5s. how do you guys think i will do with this set up? let me know if theres anything else i should do or change
  20. Hey, i'm new to banshees, just bought a 2001, its in rough condition. Motor is leaking oil at shifter and breaks have no compression. Was wondering if anyone has any suggestion on what are the first steps in to making this thing show quality. Looking to do the work myself. I am mechanically inclined. Any suggestions would be awesome

So ive owned 2 banshees, but sold them a few years back... my 1st was stock, my second had pipes, a-arms, filter and some cosmetics... im looking to buy another banshee and i want a badazz one! i dont want to buy another stock one that's 10 years old and sink a bunch of doe in it... i see tons for sale that are built, but idk if i trust em... ive seen plenty at the hill that are all chromed out that i burned on mine with minimal mods lol... i dont want a drag banshee, but i want plenty of power! more then i had with my pipes and filter, and i want suspension like a new 450... anyone have any pointers?? what to get, or what not to get?? i know i dont want some chromed out pile that doesnt idle and starts on the 500th kick... i want a first kick dune runner that's bad! please help

  25. LOCATED IN SAN DIEGO, CA. 2004 Banshee pink slip in hand great and is very fast and most very reliable!. I built this bike less than a year ago and took it on three trips to glamis.Very reliable 4mil motor with cool head dune port, still runs on pump gas! Chromed out +2 front arms with works shocks and +6 swing arm. Smooth ride and handles great in the dunes. After market sprockets, HID sandrail lights with mount which is removeable, running off a battery. Maier plastics, FMF pipes, Billet high flow waterpump, new performance clutch, safety kill switch, recently tuned and serviced. Ostridge seat, powdercoated hubs, Two sets of rims comes with this bike nobbies and haulers.This Banshee needs nothing but a new home!!
