  1. Thank you for the replies. I think I’ll stick with the stockers for now. I could use the money somewhere else. The more I dig into this bike the more I find needs to be replaced
  2. I’m getting my rebuild list together for my 04. I decided to have my jugs done with a good mx/trail port and stick with a stock bore and stroke. I will be most likely running fmf pipes and open air box so I’m wondering if there’s any benifit upgrading the carbs too. I’m looking for around 60 hp or so with a good bottom to mid rev. Thanks
  3. I turned it over with a breaker bar. It just seemed to have more resistance than it should and it felt gritty if that makes sense. It was enough that I didn’t want the force the kicker. Im just going by what I was told about no spark but I do want to check it before I rip it apart. I would just feel better resealing it all after it’s been sitting so long.
  4. Thanks for the subjections. A manual is on order. I’ll get pics as I tear it down Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. You guys are funny. I’d have to say the problems with the banshee are a lot easier to diagnose and fix than with the wife lol. Im pulling the engine next week and going to tear it all down. We shall see what’s what. I would post some pics but it says my files are to big. Thanks guys
  6. So I got a chance to start breaking down my quad to start making a list of what I need to get it zinging again. I know there is no such thing as a budget build when it comes to banshees. I found that out when I built up my last one I had but that was back before kids, wife ect. My goal is to have a decent running quad to rip around my property on when I get a itch for some 2 stroke powerband madness. I started tearing it down last night and here is what I have found so far: rear shock is shot. I’m not sure about getting this one rebuilt or is it just as cost effective to find another used one in decent shape. It sat outside for a while so you can imagine it’s pretty crusty. The gas was drained but the carbs are pretty gummed up along with the fuel lines and tank. Not a big deal I can clean them up. I turned the engine over and it sounded pretty gritty. It sat out with not side cover on it so the flywheel is rusty and I’m assuming the rest of the stator and components are too. I need to pick up another flywheel puller. My plan is to tear down the engine and freshen the top end. I’m also thinking new crank seals and bearings might be a good idea too. As far as the suspension I would love to do another elka set up but I just don’t have that kind of money to put into it right now. I’ve been researching about doing the Yfz convertion but I don’t want to throw a bunch of parts together only to have issues down the road. So that’s where I’m at for right now. I guess I’m just looking for some constructive criticism before I let this project land me in divorce court lol.
  7. Thanks for the input fellas. I agree the 450 is fun in the trails but man I missed that 2 stroke hit you get with the banshee. I was checking out west coast atv. I’m going to start going through everything with the meter soon. Does have good compression though.
  8. So as of last week I’m the owner of a 03 or 04 limited edition banshee. It belonged to a neighbor of mine and I had been trying to get him to sell it to me for a while. I was finally able to trade him a 454 short block that I had laying around that he wanted. It is bone stock and he has owned it since new. It’s been rode hard but I do know he has kept up on all the maintenance. Unfortunately it has sat outside for a while so it’s a bit rusty and the plastic could use some love. He told me it ran fine but then it developed a no spark issue. I haven’t had a chance to test it yet but he said it probably needs a new stator or maybe some othe ignition odds and ends. I looked into some new ignition components and they don’t seem to be cheap from Yamaha so I’m hoping aftermarket will work just as good. Anything I should know to stay away from? i had a 2000 banshee that I went wild with engine mods and although it was fast, it was a bear to ride on trails and tight woods that I’m used to riding in. Except for the usual airflow and exhaust mods I think I’m going to leave the motor alone untill it’s time for a rebuild. I ride a yfz now but I just got that two stroke itch again. I grew up riding and working on oil burners. I’m looking forward to tinkering with this quad but like I said I’m going to keep this one mild this time. I’m glad I found this forum and I look forward to gaining and sharing information.
