  1. From a 450? I think I might still have one laying around from my Honda 450 days
  2. I've only had it for a month and it was my first time out riding it. Never even thought to look inside there. Going to pick up a nice used one tomorrow Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. So this happened today... It appears that a piece of the spring broke off and got wedged inside the throttle housing. I was half way up a hill in 2nd gear when she stuck wide open. I didn't have much time to think because the front end was coming up, the top of the hill was getting closer and there wasn't but about 20 yards til I went back off the other side of the hill. So I grabbed the clutch and both brakes and after what seemed like 2 minutes of fighting it she finally bounced to a stop. I reached for the key to shut it off but not until she free revved for maybe 3-6 seconds. It was the fastest I've ever heard anything rev and I'm honestly surprised it didn't come apart. It was loud and just about rattled my teeth out from the vibration. My ears were ringing after I shut it off and the guys I was riding with said it was very loud from about 100 yards away. I should have just reached for the key in the first place but I panicked a little. It was fine to ride home and still ripped hard but I hope I didn't do too much damage. It only has 5-6 hours on a brand new motor top and bottom Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. I'd probably be interested in making a deal for some stock parts for the pwk's. where are you located?
  5. The athena cylinders are fairly new. Maybe 4-5 hours on them. I'm just afraid of the thin coating that flakes off and the cast pistons breaking. That's my only reason for wanting to take it apart. I kind of want this bike to just be something fun that I can get out a few times when I get an itch for speed or when the 450 and raptor guys start talking shit and hopefully shut them up with it. I ride a rzr900 most of the time, I'm just not into beating myself up ripping a 2 stroke around for hours at a time anymore
  6. This quad also has pyramid reeds, 35mm pwk carbs and t5's. How well, or not so well, will these work with a trail ported stock cylinder setup?
  7. What exactly makes the athena cylinders so crappy? I don't know much about them or even 2 strokes in general, I'm coming from a bone stock 450 to a banshee so this is all new to me. I briefly had a banshee about 10 years ago that was pretty much stock and I wanted another one and ended up with this one (pretty much free) when I sold my camaro
  8. Maybe I'll just sell the athena kit and my pwk's and get stock cylinders and carbs then. I shouldn't have much money, if any, into stock parts after selling mine. I just don't want plated cylinders, it's easier for me to get them bored/honed locally than send out for recoating
  9. I'm starting to lean towards doing something with the athena cylinders since I have nothing into them. If I had to buy them I'd just get stock cylinders but I pretty much got the athenas for free. Vito's makes a sleeve for the athena cylinder which I think is a much better option than getting them replated. So I'm thinking if I get the sleeves put in and have them trail ported that should fix the issues people have with the athena cylinders and it should still make some decent power and I won't have a whole lot of money into them. I haven't been able to find any info on ported athenas though so I don't know if this is even a good idea
  10. I'm also contemplating having the athena cylinders sleeved and ported to make them much better, since I have no money into them as they are, putting a couple hundred bucks into them to make them badass isn't as bad as paying 700 for them first
  11. Hey guys..I picked a banshee up on trade and it has an Athena 392 kit on it. I'm looking to go back to stock. Does anyone know if the niche cylinders are sleeved and can be bored/honed if needed? Or are they plated like the athenas? Are they much different than stock, such as porting and such? I don't need a race bike or anything I probably won't ride it more than a few times a year, I just want it back to stock. My other option is buying used stock cylinders, there's a bunch locally on Craigslist. Let's hear some opinions on this, I haven't been able to find much info on the niche cylinders online Thanks
  12. So my basket does have some play in it. It "spins" back and forth a little bit like maybe an 1/8 inch or so. The clip is still on the idler gear and it has some movement on the shaft but I wouldn't say it's excessive. Is that normal for the idler gear or should it be pretty tight on the shaft? I assume the basket moving isn't good though, so what are my next steps with that? Repair or replace the basket? Thanks
  13. Thanks for the replies. When I get some time I'll pull the clutch cover and check it out
  14. I'll also add that after it cooled down I started it back up and the noise wasn't there until I revved it up and it dropped back to idle then the noise came back, still only at idle, when revved up it still goes away
