  1. Who makes those pipe clamps? The one the near the pipe/stinger.
  2. Torque should be great with the extra cylinder. SXS are too expensive for me though. I'd still like one!
  3. Good lord. I would not be going for a Chrysler Jeep for 65k. Looks nice though.
  4. They sure did I came across it in my research on doing the 6bt swap. It's a clean Excursion for sure. http://www.trucktrend.com/cool-trucks/1508-what-happens-when-a-600hp-cummins-and-an-allison-transmission-come-together-in-2004-ford-excursion/
  5. With a higher budget I could likely just get a 7.3 Excursion, certainly a good point. The swap is very feasible though. Doing it for: $3-5k for donor, $3k all day for 6bt complete driveline (t case, trans and engine) and the rest for misc. After watching auctions for only a week I'm confident I can even jump up from a 12v to a common rail for the same price. Either engine, 12v or 24v doesn't matter as both will do. If you keep the driveline all Dodge/Cummins you don't need any trans/tcase adapters, only motor mounts. Not to mention being able to part out the wrecked Dodge truck. Not that I'm interested in nickel and diming parts off it for god knows how long. I'd probably be able to dump the interior and some non damaged body panels and make back at least $500-1000 before scrapping it. As far as mods after the swap. Real mild. Looking for 300hp/450 tq. My understanding thats super mild. I can't think of anything comparable I could build or buy for 10k. As I stated I originally looking at 80's trucks and SUV's but the wifey wouldnt go for selling the 2005 F150 for that old of a truck, haha. She will be DD'ing this 10 miles a day so she gets a little say, just a little. The Excursion seems to fit in the all around category. It's a little portly to be offroading but still capable. Throw some air bags, F350 sway bar and rear springs, it would tow a house down the road just fine.
  6. Anyone have any other suggestions? Durango/Expeditions you can only swap the 4bt as the 6bt is too long without heavy firewall/trans tunnel modification.
  7. I'm going to change the spark plugs this weekend. I hope they don't bust off in the head though, only reason I've held off. Yeah the V10 will be even worse on gas! It would be more to have the truck ready to go for the swap and enjoying it in the mean time. Yeah I would love to get a 7.3, that would be ideal, its just everyone else wants one also! The price is staying up there. It seems the V10 and Diesels are the best swap candidate however. Either route will eventually get the swap, its too strong not to.
  8. Hey guys It's time to get rid of the 2005 f150. It's been a good truck but I need more out of a truck these days. I just pulled 3k lbs and this pig was in 2nd gear doing 45mph revving to the moon on hills. Gutless and only got about 12 mpg. I plan on towing up to around 8k lbs or so. Basically a travel trailer and bikes or a boat. I want a diesel and a SUV for the people/gear hauling and mileage. I'm not brand loyal or anything but the Excursions seem ideal. Solid axle, similar frame to superduty trucks, tons of aftermarket for steering/suspension. Problem is any diesel with under 150k is still $15k ish. I got to thinking... someone has to of swapped a Cummins 6bt into one. They have. Plenty of detailed builds. Plan is to buy a V10 Excursion or a diesel if the price is right (I see V10's for $3k with higher miles), drive it until it dies while fixing suspension/steering/tires etc. When it dies, swap in the 6bt. I can get wrecked rollover Dodge diesels at auction here for sub $3k. Some of them are even 03+ common rails. I started this wanting to swap a 6BT in a Crew Cab 80's Chevy, then went to a newer Suburban but I'd hate to put a 1000 lb 6bt over top of IFS so I'd have to solid axle swap it. Just thought I'd share my plans. If anyone has any ideas or insight.
  9. Wal-Mart sells name brand ammo... yeah you can get cheap stuff also. A lot of us don't have those big stores near them. For me, even in a large metro area, its 40 min away. So local stores are typically only going to stock your traditional calibers. I do use them for larger purchases that I dont need right now. Lot's of good info in this thread.
  10. I like the claims that internet/magazine orders is somehow now classified as "easily to find". This has always existed. The idea is to have common calibers that you dont NEED to use the internet/magazines to order. Yes, obvious but you may not know it from reading some of these responses. To the Walmart call outs, yeah its a terrible store. It's a great reference though as pricing is consistent across stores/states and they stock... common ammo. I like Bi-Mart but its a NW thing.
  11. Whatever you do don't get an oddball caliber for your first gun. They cost to much to shoot and you will want to be shooting it a lot at first. If you want to someday use it for hunting, get a bolt action. If you want to go shooting with friends and just generally shoot at stuff, get a semi auto. I'd say Winchester Model 70 in 1. .30 06. The caliber has been around 100 years, tons and tons of surplus. The loads/grains are all dialed in for best performance. Hits really hard for the package. 2. .308 Sane as above. Tried and true and everywhere. Advantage is getting a rifle that will shoot 7.62x51mm NATO and .308 and you can get surplus deals on the NATO round all day. .243 Winchester. Again, you can buy this at walmart, try to find 6.8 SPC or 6.5 creedmoor at walmart. .243 hits really hard for a smaller caliber round. Its great on deer and shoots really flat. Otherwise get a AR-15 in 5.56/.223 or a AR-10 in 7.62x51/.308 if you want to go plink with friends.
  12. I like my 2005 F150 4x4 5.4l. Has 105k on it, I've put about 70k of that on it. Only issue is the door lock sticks and I have to spray with WD40 and its good for 2-4 months. (lol). I've had every brand of truck except Dodge and I agree with everyone, take care of it and it doesn't matter. Having said that, sit in a few of them and see what interiors you like better. We all know what they look like on the outside.
  13. I'm generally always opposed to such suggestions. This one had me asking tough, "what could they build at Silver Lake with the money?" Then I read: "Loomis said he’s also upset that the voucher funds will not be used for park improvements. “The money, potentially over $1,000,000 this summer alone, will not go for improvements to Silver Lake or any other state park,” he said. “It will be used to pay an outside company to run the (voucher) system. That company is not in Michigan — it’s not even in the U.S.” He said the company is based in Canada." Absurd. Does this have to do with law enforcement? Is that the reason to try to limit how many people are there every weekend?
  14. Newbie in Vancouver here! I've been lurking, learning as much as I can. I'm waiting on a few things before I pull the trigger on a bike, looking like Jan or Feb. That being said, I'm in for a local ride, even if I have to rent again. This is exactly where I rode last month and had a lot of fun. I rode a 400ex and it did very well for what it was. It's no 2 smoke though. You guys seem like a cool crowd, looking forward to "officially" joining. Count me and the wife in.
