Manny's MX build

Recommended Posts

Well long story short been riding almost all my life and raced for 3 yrs and who knows how many before that i spent at the track. I had always wanted a Banshee but when i went to get a new quad when i was going to start racing it only made sense to get a 450 since back in the day they came a lot more prepared for the track than a Banshee so I went with a an LTR450 and put on a few parts and won the championship in the race series i was in at the time and a bunch of other races but wouldnt run the full series do to them being scattered all over the place. Anyway here's my build and where i am so far.

My LTR450

First thing I ordered was a-arms searched around for a while and loved the MGC look. Saw that alba had a set and JD performance. After talking to JD i decided to go with his arms and he was actually local so that made it even better and why not support someone local.

After seeing so many bikes run off at the track without their rider i purchased a kill switch and threw it on right away.

In the mean time i had finally found a set of graphics i liked. I was a big fan of alba's graphics and cant begin to tell you how many picutres I have of banshees with their graphics but unfortunately for me they dont make them anymore but after seeing how well these came out im pretty happy. EC1093BF-C4DC-4511-8862-191742A343F0.jpg

Had a day to go mess around on a local abandoned track and had a blast but made me realize everything this bike was going to need to get it feeling anywhere near the 450. I knew it wouldnt compare but hey most of it is the rider anyway you can have the baddest bike but its not going to mean anything if you suck.

Since i had chosen to go with a +3 arms and knew what offset to run i decided to order up some wheels.

Then after about a month or so of waiting my rear axles had finally came in from lonestar.

I got tired of seeing a silver bumper and figured it would look better if this weas black so i plasti dipped it and i was digging it.

After finally receiving my axle i had forgotten to order an axle lock nut so i wouldnt have to use the ugly stock nuts and also came across a different parking brake delete plate so i bought a red one to go with my theme.

With how hot these things can get especially out in the desert I bought an oversized radiator, some hoses  and a water impeller to help out with cooling.

The brake lines i had ordered were on back order from streamline for the front and rear so it took me forver to receive the only thing left was to get my suspension and i could throw everything on together which is what i was waiting for.

After seeing how much hp the stator plate added i purchased one and mounted it the same day i received it. Pretty awesome what this cheap part can do and transform the bike and also added some V-force 4 reed valves (used to have a blaster back when the v2's came out and remembered how well the bike responded to them so i bought the newest ones for the banshee and i was not let down either with how well they work on this bike also)

One of the local tracks started allowing quads on one of their tracks so some buddies and I decided to check it out and figured i should just throw on the axle with the rear wheels and fresh tires so try it out. Tires hook up a million times better than the damn stock ones that come on this thing but it wouldnt have taken a genius to figure that out since MOST tires that come on stock quads tend to suck. She was a whole lot wider and i was no longer hit the apex and coming out of turns on two wheels haha.

I thought i had been set on going with Fox shocks all the way around but after seeing the elka deal that was on not too long ago I decided i would order those up instead and after waiting a month they had finally arrived and i could throw on the front end at least.

Stock vs. long travel. Had some issues with these a-arms where the bolt mounts werent 100% allinged correctly so i had to drill the bolt hole to get the bottom bolt through and was off by maybe a millimeter and io also had to grind down on the spacers that came with the shocks to get them to fit on the a-arm.

But eventually had it completed with the brake lines bled.

Huge difference and i think elka had actually gotten the valving down on the fronts. Threw on the front wheels and a fresh set of tires and she was handling amazingly compared to the stock.

I was used to have a steering stabilizer on the LTR so i knew i had to get one for the banshee so after some research i purchased a GPR i wouldve liked to have gotten the one that mounts on the steering stem but they dont make that one anymore which sucks because i liked being able to adjust it as i ride. Needless to say this was going on right away.

After that last track day my chain was almost at the point where i couldnt adjust it further to make it tighter so i decided to replace everything and it was a good thing i did because i found the front sprocket looking like this.

I kept having an issues with my carbs..i had rebuilt them and adjusted them so many damn times and they kept leaking so i got fed up with them and decided to go with the 28mm PWK's along with with the charriot intake manifold. Love how crisp my throttle response is now shouldve bought these a  while ago.

A month or so of waiting for for lonestar to build my stem and then them sending me the wrong one (second mistake they have made they had sent me the wrong size tie rod length for their DC-4 arms on the other banshee) i had finally got what i had ordered a +1+1 stem with their clamp and some bars to go along with it.

Had my swingarm on order and kept looking at my rear shock everytime id walk into my room so i finally through that on. This is where i think elka screwed up with their valving since i can compress this shock to the bump stop with the preload at almost its highest and compression on the last click.

I was going to mount my radiator and corresponding parts until i came across this awesome cool head so i ordered that and had to wait until just recently.

Got my carrier last week along with my beauty of a swingarm built by John JL engineering. Couldnt be any happier with the way this came out.
